Notes via iceblueeyes:
"For once I chose to stay with an artist, in this case with WINSTON HUBERT McINTOSH, as he
was baptised. This concert today is not especially rare but it is certainly very special.
TOSH was on tour in Europe to promote his then current album "Wanted Dread and Alive" when
he stopped in Amsterdam to perform at the "Anti Apartheid Festival". Most of you will
know that TOSH was by no doubt the most militant reggae artist of his time. His miltancy
was both expressed his songs and lyrics ("I don't want no peace, I want equal rights
and justice") as well as in his frequent "ramblings". I personally am not the biggest
TOSH fan, firstly because he hardly ever varied his set lists but also because of these
ramblings which a lot of times were simply not understandable even for hard core reggae
fans and which would a lot of times interrupt the "flow" of a concert...interestingly
enough, this is said to be one of the reasons why he split ways with SLY & ROBBIE: in
the early 80s they were at the peak of their own career, performing with BOB DYLAN, JOE
COCKER or GRACE JONES...they simply did not want to be stopped at random times, night after
night. Anyway, this show right here is an exception it every way: TOSH altered his set regular
list significantly when replacing the rather slow "Rastafari is" with a 11 min version of the
in 1981 rarely played "Equal Rights" - and his speech at the beginning of "Equal Right" is
(imho) his best ever: "...this is a struggle that each and everyone have to get themselves
deeply involved in...it's against the most dangerous and fascist organisation that organised
themselves together..."

FUCK APARTHEID!

by the way, I've patched this together from two different sources, to make it as complete
as possible"
