Notes Notes from Tim:

The exact date remains an active debate. At one point, I made a note that this show was also dated, "3/01/80" but, at the start of the show, David Hinds clearly says, "The month of February a-comin’ to a close..." So the month of the show was certainly February, and the 2/28 date makes perfect sense. Regarding the date, the tradition has become 2/28/1980, and I am inclined to accept this tradition.

The sonic quality of this recording is a significant upgrade to what circulates. There is another recording for this date on LL (identifier: Steel Pulse The Ritz Theatre, New York, USA. 1980-02-28 FM) that is also significantly different. It is a rebroadcast with announcer Habte Selassie (who dates the show as 2/28/1980, qualifying it with "I think"). The Habte Selassie version has been reconstructed from two different tapes, the last five songs of which, after Heart of Stone, sound different and are almost certainly not from the original broadcast. Here, Unseen Guest through Heart of Stone sound similar. It's not clear if they were broadcast in performance order, as the recording has brief periods of near silence between some songs, and from a stage announcement, True Democracy was played before Riot (but was not broadcast). But, in any event, this recording appears to be more accurate that other copies.

On this recording, Harassment has an tape flip @ 3:22 which has been shortened, but is still audible.

Enjoy!
