THE SHOW
Serving as a local warm-up for the Summer European tour, this steath Neil w/ Booker T & the MGs show was the third in a series of four Northern California open rehearsal shows. Getting away from thesloppy garage sound of Crazy Horse, Neil Young hooked up with the legendary Memphis Group known for their musically tight soulful Stax/Volt studio arrangements. The setlists were the same at all four shows, consisted of familiar Neil Young songs with the new song"Separate Ways" thrown into the mix for good measure.

THE SETTING
The Concord Pavillion, originally built to host the Concord Jazz Festival, was a relatively intimate shed back in '93... a special secret place worth the trip into the suburbs of the San Francisco Bay Area. Since then, it's been renamed the Chronicle Pavillion, and enlarged about two or three times, destroying the best aspects of an outdoor venue designed for acoustic music. Now it's just another music mega-shed from hell.

THE SHOOT
The taper and associates videoed from the lawn for a surprisingly watchable and listenable rustological archival document. They refer to the video as an "in-house/out-house" because they shot the multi camera in-house video feed shooting from the "out-house"--- the lawn. The lawn was located in what now are the 200 section seats. Note: You don't really want to know where the lawn is now. Many folks mistake the video for the real in-house feed... it's awful close.... the next best thing to being there and the beer's a lot cheaper. Let's see if you can tell the difference.
