Notes fob sony 54 [2006-10-20] This is another hidden gem of 78 which has both excellent sound and a great performance in what I would call the 78 style - grungy guitar sound but tight playing with no wankery. Couple of archive comments I agree with: "show open with 6 guns blazing and a very hot Half Step>Franklins, and for an audience the sound clarity is exceptional for the pre D5 period... Magnificent second set with a blazing Scarlet>Fire Rest of this set is great especially the bitchen segway into Not Fade from Stella (the only one I am aware of). Magnificent!!" "At the end of Stella, Garcia plays the NFA rhythm, but instead of using that song's E-A chording, he employes the same chords he's been playing in Stella. And it works! A magical creation. The real surprise comes in NFA. Garcia just kind of steps back and eyes the solo; and with the great restraint of a master, he takes his time with some small patterns in the low register. You just know he's going to come up with something. Around the four minute mark, you can start to make out the strain of the new (old) theme. At 6:40 it's very clear, and at 8:40 unmistakeable. They return to NFA around 9:20."
