aud/sbd cotsman - Last Bird Song until 1980! Aud source is clean, not much audience pickup but hissy. The Bird Song and PITB are both excellent. Set 2 doesn't surpass these two songs. The Truckin>Drums>Eyes has horns . On Truckin', they add to the basic song parts but the jam section they haven't practiced enough to find their role. On Eyes the horns seem to find a more natural fit because the song itself is jazzier. The WRS >LIG part the horns (esp Fiero's flute) suggest interesting possibilities, but again without significant rehersals to probe which ideas have legs, it doesn't gel in the final analysis. On the Sugr Mag and OMSN which are straight ahead rockers, the horns provide a "big band" sound. Mix and sound on the sbd part is good to very good. Summary: Bird Song and PITB are good, the horn parts more of an exercise or experiment. This ranks the show in the bottom quartile for 73. [2005-12-12] |
