They bow and leave the stage. Avalon continues, the band comes back out with Siggi Armann and they bow. The exit the stage again and the music stops. The lights turn on. Lineup was (in order of appearence): Siggi Armann Sigur Ros Ft Amina *City Pages* Talk about cryptic: The new album from the cosmic Icelandic quartet Sigur R?s is untitled except for a pair of apostrophes, contains eight nameless tracks, and features nothing but amorphous naturalistic images in shades of gray on its packaging. Plus, Jon Thor Birgisson sings in an original language he calls Hopelandic. Pretentious? Moi? What saves the band's music from snooze-age hell is that it's riddled with deep mysteries, hair-raising dives into indefinable voids, and emotions rubbed raw to the point of bleeding. There's also stark beauty etched from some unlikely union of psychedelic experimentation, Nordic demons, and the eerie glow of the northern lights. People reportedly have passed out during Sigur R?s performances from the sheer intensity of the experience. Amina, the group's string section, will also be on hand, along with Icelandic musician Siggi Armann. $25.50. 6:30 p.m. --Rick Mason TUE NOV 12 State Theatre 805 Hennepin Ave, Mpls.; 612.339.7007 |
