NOTE: I transferred this concert from cassette to CDR. First of all, I would
like to thank my friend Tom Feldman for sending me a copy of this unbelievable
soundboard recording and allowing me to distribute it via my website. He has
done us all a great service by making this recording available to the internet
community. The sound on this bootleg is tremendously clear. Whereas most
high-end soundboard recordings are so perfect that they almost seem to have
been edited in some way, "Under the New Jersey Lights" has a raw feel to it
that makes it seem as if you are sitting in the soundroom during the concert.
The clarity of the music is unbelievable -- of all the bootlegs that I own,
only a select few can compare in this category. For example, have you ever
wondered what was being shown on the ZooTV television screens while Bono is
flipping through the channels? I kid you not, on this recording you can hear
every word coming from the TVs as clearly as if you were watching them in your
living room. Furthermore, a few of Bono's comments to the other band members
can be heard clear as day, such as when he croons "Nice One!" after "Zoo
Station". Unfortunately, "Tryin' To Throw Your Arms Around the World" had to
be faded out near the end of the song and "When Love Comes To Town" was
completely omitted from this recording due to flaws with the cassette from
which I transferred this show. Also, there is a skip at 3:13 of "Desire".
There is a very faint "soundboard hiss" in the background, but it is almost
negligible and is virtually nonexistent throughout much of the recording.
Given the overall quality of this bootleg and also its rarity, I am more than
willing to live with these few very minor imperfections. The bonus tracks from
Madison Square Garden are not quite on the same level as the New Jersey
portion of the bootleg, but that is hardly an insult. They are still of
excellent soundboard quality.
