sbd patched by Cotsman [2007-05-19]Rumor has it this was one of 3 shows that Latvala pitched for the DP series. Set 1 starts with the last time H>S>F would be played with Keith and Donna. Of course this is a great song combo but can't say that this specific rendition is one of the best played - in fact, being the lead off for the night and out of rotation it comes off a little rusty. The band gets into the 77 "perfection" groove for the rest of the set with a good Straw, Deal and LIG. I don't find LIG is a tune that I look forward to hearing - melody seems too orchestrated and forced but lots of folks rave about 77 versions that closed set 1. Set II starts with a funky
Dancin' -> Dire Wolf, followed by an Estimated (Garcia playing is aggressive and edgy) -> Eyes (smooth flawless playing)-> Drums (boring)-> Not Fade Away (highlight of show - Garcia playing very edgy, definite should hear this version) -> Wharf Rat (good)-> Around and Around (standard). Nice show, probably worth a listen if you like 77 and check out the NFA.
