Liner Notes:Twenty years ago a young band of musicians called The Santana Blues Band entered Paul Curcio's newly opened Pacific Recording Studio in San Mateo, California. Curcio, no stranger to the underground Rock scene, was a member of the popular Bay Area band The Mojo Men. He heard great potential in Santana's band and allowed them full access to his studio. A year later Columbia Records signed Santana. In Curcio's studio they recorded all of their first album and part of Abraxas. While these tracks were exciting, the initial energy and raw electricity of their 1968 sessions was missing. Songs had to be shortened and various other people were now involved in the project. Now exactly two decades later the incredible 1968 Santana sessions have been mixed with the latest technology at 30 ips for amazing fidelity. These recordings display the unique and original sound that would later make the Santana band famous.

Jingo: When presented on Santana's first album, Jingo was shortened and mixed much differently than this incredible version that lasts twice as long and is full of the furious Santana energy.

El Corazon Manda: Of all the tracks recorded in 1968 by Santana this song is the most interesting. It goes through many different stages and reflects much of the famed San Francisco sound. Special guest appearance by Lemon Drops guitarist Eddie Weiss.

La Puesta D'El Sol: Another gem laid down by the band displaying their high energy and unique style.

Persuasion: This early version gives an idea of how powerful the band was live in concert. This special mix relies much more on Santana's brilliant leads than the later version of their first album.

As The Years Go By: One of the early blues ballads recorded by Santana.
