The Kinks   12/24/1977

Rainbow Theatre, London, England
Media Audio CDR   1 disc
Notes The "Kristmas Koncert" FM soundboard boot. Arguably, the Kinks' place in rock history was solidified in the first three years of their existence. Churning out eight albums from 1964 to 1967, the Kinks played an integral role in the British invasion. The two-chord, gritty "You Really Got Me" almost single-handedly inspired rock's distortion sound. "Sunny Afternoon" reached the top of the UK charts in 1966 and beat the Beatles' "Paperback Writer". In 1965 The Kinks were banned from touring the US until 1969 due to a dubious musicians' union ban. This left them cut off from the musical revolution of the last part of the decade and the largest consumer market in the world. After that Ray Davies' songwriting turned towards introspective "British" music and when the ban was lifted the Kinks moved their focus to the American audience and released the joke-classic "Lola". Fun show! Thanks John
