| Notes | Lots of tape hiss here. Not sure how many cassette generations down this copy was transferred from; it’s definitely a few. But if you can sift your way through this hiss, there’s a listenable show here. Stinkfist is played as an opener, no Third Eye. That sets the stage for a less cerebral, more straightforward show. Maynard’s voice is aggressive and flying on 46&2. The recording is actually good enough to pick up on the guitar-bass interaction on the intro and middle, and the drums knifing through them for the solo. The syncopated accents are spot on. Adam almost leaves the solo too early though, but recovers. Intolerance is danceable (if you’re alone that is). A subtle but cool thing happens by accident immediately after the first verse in Eulogy (“…but at least you tried”). Maynard lays off his voice distorter (or forgets to play it) for 2 measures, leaving just the bass pounding out the melody and Danny’s four-limbed rhythm complimenting it. Fucking grooving! This could have been played out for at least another 2 measures for a great bass-drum break, and would’ve sounded excellent if played consistently live. Prison Sex and Jimmy are played back to back tonight. Love it. The sound takes a turn for the worse though at the beginning of the latter. It’s more distant and the gen hiss dominates as result (or vice-versa). “You are the one who’s been LEADING me back home” lyrical variation. There is a beautiful performance of this song underneath this muck. |
