| Notes | This is IT! The greatest performance of Jimmy to be caught on tape. So together and inspired. And only the 2nd time they tried this live too. Incredible find by Sean C. One of the most significant in the last couple of years. These '96 - '97 recordings are my most sought after, but most rare. But I had a feeling there would be more coming from the Cali tapers out there. Almost every show over there gets taped in one form or another. 10.19.96 Fresno and especially 10.30.96 Hollywood are bound to show up sometime. This is as good or better than 11.14.96. Absolutely crystal clear sound here. There is very little to zero crowd during the songs, and the band-isolation and instrument balance is tremendous. There's no question he stood very near the stacks. Maynard's voice is -soaring- early in the tour here and it's represented very well on the recording. It is a 1st gen cassette transfer, so there is some very slight tape hiss underneath the sound, the only criticism you could muster from this. But I actually think it gives the sound a certain warmth to it not found it straight digital transfers, but guaranteed that's just me. A couple firsts here: 1) Pushit (after the Aenima release) performed live. Pulled off very nicely. 2) They screw up the -beginning- of Forty Six & 2. Not ever heard them do that before. ... Probably my new favorite '96 show. |
