"Dress Rehearsals"

This is an excellent soundboard of the final rehearsals for the Stones' 1989 "Steel Wheels"
tour. When kicking off a tour, they typically spend a few days in advance rehearsing in the
opening city, and they generally rent the stadium several nights prior in order to conduct full
run-throughs of the first night's set. I believe this setlist is more or less the same as what
they used to open the tour. "Shattered" was dropped from the set after the opening show, so
having a board version of this song from 1989 makes this worth the download.

This is more or less the raw board tape from that night's rehearsal. I used Audio Cleaning
Lab to break the source into tracks, edit out dead space (of which there was about 10 minutes
total) in order to bring this down to 2 discs, and remove a small amount of hiss. There is
still some audible hiss on the tape - I was reluctant to be too aggressive for fear of making
the tape sound too muffled to some people's taste.

These are some really enjoyable CDs, unlike many rehearsal tapes floating around. All of the
songs are complete and the band is in good form. It would seem in many ways like a
real show (including the points after several songs where Mick thanks the non-existent audience)
except for the total absence of crowd noise and the occasional breaks for the band and crew
to work out logistics. I tried to isolate the longer sections of noodling and discussion
so that you can omit it if you choose. ~ademotte
