| Notes | Digable Planets are a unique jazz rap hip hop fusion trio consisting of "Butterfly" (Ishmael Butler), "Ladybug" (Mary Ann Vierra), and "Doodlebug" (Craig Irving). They adopted their insect names to symbolize their belief in communalism. "We saw that the insects as a species were by nature, by instinct, a very all for one, one for all, type of community," Irving said in a 1995 interview. "[in the] rap world?we saw ourselves as the insect - a small species, but one that can make a big noise by its music, by its positive vibes, and by the message it brings." The multiple influences heard in the Digables music range from Butterfly's jazz samples, Ladybug's affinity for Latin rhythms and Doodlebug's preference for hip-hop beats. The Digables ability to play real instruments and create a unique fusion sound still make them a breath of fresh air among the plethora of rap acts out there. This is the real thing! Audience. Some pops. Some gaps between tracks. Thanks so much Ed. |
