| Notes | These notes are stolen from http://www.god-of-thunder.immortals.co.uk, but they summarize what I am trying to say beautifully. Trying to describe David Lindley is rather like trying to explain why we are here - virtually impossible. He does not conform to any known standards, and even if there were a standard in which he could be categorized, he would exceed it. He is unique. Born in California, he started out on the banjo and gradually progressed through any instrument that has strings that can be plucked, strummed, or twanged. The list of instruments he plays includes several that I can't even pronounce, which come from countries that I didn't even know existed, such is the range of his musical expertise. His list of credits is just as extensive. He has carved a niche a mile wide as one of the most desirable session musicians in the world and has long-standing associations with Jackson Browne, Ry Cooder and virtually everyone else of note. In addition to his own world/blues/reggae fusion band El Rayo-Ex, his collaborations with Wally Ingram, Hani Naser and Henry Kaiser have produced an intriguing back catalogue of world music, bluegrass and blues albums that show his versatility and skill. This is an awesome show with official release quality sound. Opening set for the Grateful Dead. Thanks so much Ed. You're a lucky bastard for having attended this one! I stole someone else's notes this time!:-) |
