This was a fun show! I remember thinking how badly Garcia fumbled Althea and then Bobby stepping up to the mic and saying"now we are going to show you that practice makes perfect" before launching into Box. The visual of the whole band singing this will stay with me forever. When the first notes were played the crowd was dead quiet then burst into applause so loud it was like a jet landing in the coliseum. One of my peak GD moments. Anyone have the rest of the run?
Yes i still get chills when i listen to my audience master as they bust into BOX.
It seems like yesterday and not 18 or so years ago lol
The Row Jimmy Row was very trippy...I am going to c if i can get someone to post the 19th with The best Visions Of Johanna played IMHO..
This is an interesting recording to me. I saw this show and the Box is one of, if not the most memorable concert breakout I've ever heard. I've had several analog copies over the years that seemed to capture the ambiance of that night. The crowd went nuts for this breakout and actually drowned out the vocals in the beginning. It continues after every verse. It remained loud for about 5-10 minutes after the lights went up for set break. This recording captures the instruments and vocals better than any audience copy I've heard of this show (at least what I've listened to so far), but it does not capture the feel in the "Mothership" that night. I'm guessing this is an FOB recording because the crowd sounds so distant.
I don't want to keep anyone from d'loading this show because it is a fine recording. It just doesn't capture the feeling that night. Find an aud. recording from the tapers section and you'll see what I mean. |
