| Tech Notes | You've had this show 5 years? Yet the source you linked to was only SHN'd and added to the database 4 years ago (and IS the source on GDLIVE, btw...). Did you have this in SHN format all that time? Or did you just rip audio CDs for this bt? Does anyone know if the md5s actually match the md5s in the SHN link? I'm not one to blast people first and ask questions later, so I'm asking the questions first. I think a little more clarification is in order here. Thanks. Unfortunately the md5s DO NOT match db.etree. This must be an EAC rip or something, plus all the flies have screwed up names. I'll give it a listen, but I'm certainly not going to trade this. The correct fileset can be found for download at archive.org here: http://www.archive.org/audio/etree-details-db.php?id=12261 Please DO NOT torrent a DAE version of a show if there is a superior version available. Please check db.etree before torrenting a show that you EAC'ed. How in the fuck would I know if there's a better version out there. This is a stellar sounboard recording and is probably the best quality soundboard grateful dead show I own. I converted it to shn and posted it so people could enjoy it. I took my time to do this for everyone else. If you want to hear an amazing soundboard show then this is for you. Anybody else whose as picky as this guy can straight up download something else. here's your gen info. sbd>cd>shn happy Floatingpancake -- I appreciate your taking the effort to seed this great show. However, its important that all seeders perform a bit of diligence to determine whether the show they're ripping from audio cd is the best version to circulate. As has been pointed out above, this show is already available for shn download off of archive.org. The version on archive.org has circulated in shn format for years. Thus, before ripping your audio version of this show to wav/shn, you should have first confirmed whether a version already circulated in SHN format. All of this information is stored over at db.etree.org. In the future, PLEASE check there before seeding other shows to assure that the version you want to seed is either exactly the same (has the same md5s) as that listed on the db.etree.org database, or is in some quantifiable way BETTER than what?s out there. In this case, with 4.23.77, it?s VERY easy to do, all you?d need to do is think ?hey this is a superb show that I want others to hear? and check db.etree.org. This would?ve shown you that this show is already available for download in shn format from archive.org. You could?ve then either a) downloaded the archive.org version that?s cross-referenced in db.etre.org and seeded that version, or b) compared the archive.org version and found that yours is better because ???? (your patch is better done, theirs has a skip in the franklin?s outro that?s missing on yours, etc. The problem with ripping and seeding your version without carefully comparing it to the already-circulating version is that you (and the trading community) have no way of knowing whether your version suffers from skips, cuts/etc. that aren?t on the db.etree.org version. Let?s assume there IS something less desirable about yours than the version up at archive.org (say a skip in sugaree that?s missing from the version on archive.org) ? by not performing the diligence above, 75 folks so far have just grabbed a version with this problem. If each of these folks give copies to 2 friends, 225 folks will now have to unnecessarily suffer through jerry stuttering ?my d-d-d-d-darling su-u-u-u-ugaree ? something even timmay wouldn?t want to see happen. So PLEASE, keep spreading the tunes, but take some REASONABLE steps to assure you?re spreading the best version you can. We?ll ALL appreciate it! ha. oh boy. man i feel like i'm talking to the echo of jerry's soul 200 years from now telling me, damnit Kev, these guys could have been listening to a better version of this. and I understand this. which is why i posted this, cause it kicks so much ass and thank you for all the info. I will absolutely keep it in mind. I had no clue this show was even up on the archive. But I will tell you. I spent good time dropping some of the obviously pre existant pops with cool edit pro by dropping them 10 db's at microsecend intervals, on the specific channels they existed in. I will, certainly now, have to download the one up on the archive and kick myself in the nuts if it possibly sounds better than this. I knew people wanted to ensure the best quality but I had no clue there was such a meticulous process behind ensuring your recording was THE BEST. anyhow enjoy, and please inform em if you think my recording is anywhatso under par in comparison to the preexisting one. Of course, everything Darrin said is right, but I would like to point out here that the most egregious feaux paux here is not actually torrenting a ripped audio CD, but it is the inaccurate representation of the source as a known etree source. Most users here use the etree SHNID numbers to track what sources of shows that they have, and a lot don't even take shows unless they are from a known source. Linking a torrent to an etree source that it is not will screw up the records of almost everyone who downloads it. IMO, torrenting ripped audio CDs is not necessarily wrong (not recommeded by any means, but not wrong in and of itself...) as long as the source on the txt files clearly indicates it as such. In other words, torrenting this with the source SBD > ??? > CD > EAC > CoolEdit (remove pops) > SHN clearly indicated (and no link to any different etree source) is not nearly as bad as torrenting the show linked to a known source that it is not. Torrenting a show with a clearly marked but unknown lineage at least alerts the users and allows those that do not want unknown lineage to skip the torrent altogether. Misrepresenting the source as a known etree SHNID will only piss off those same users. Thanks for sharing anyway. I'm sure you'll learn etree etiquette. |

E: One More Saturday Night Notes: right after the guitar solo in franklins tower, the recording splits to mic's to allow you to hear the crowd going absolutely nuts, then goes back into soundboard! simply amazing If you have a show with a help slipknot franklins that comes even close to this one please post it! I posted this because its one of my fav shows and out of frustration because it seems like nobody posts any good shows with a help>slipknot>franklins in it. I was at this show it was a rare experience because we were all feeling this special spirit of love feeling like I never felt before people were looking around saying to each other do you feel it?I know I was not imagining this psychic oneness. During help slipknot franklin's jerry started dancing across the stage with his guitar while he played ! It was a trippy night but like far out it was! The other members of the band were smiling watching jerry. This show was by far a rare night indeed! hey cryptical.. thanks for your comment. :) makes me tickle to picture that. anything to say about the guitar intro in fire on the mountain? that one made me have to get off my bike one night so i could listen to it 5 more times when i was riding home from the hemp fest all stoned 2 years ago. just tits. this one just hits home to me. I was born in Springfield and its just so fun for me to think this show happened just before i was born. :) Thanks for this. The sound is phenominal. this is a sweet help>slip>Franklin's but that switch in sources at the end of Franklins is a bit rough. |
