The Who   08/05/1971

Music Hall, Boston, MA
Source AUD
Media FLAC   1 disc
Notes Source: AUD

Lineage: Unverified low gen cassette (likely 3rd/4th) > Tascam Deck > Sonic Foundry > DC offset correction in Steinberg Wavelab > CDWave > FLAC

Notes:
Talking 'bout my g-g-g-generation... sadly, many who collect The Who do not keep nor even care about tape generation histories. In fact it is a challenge to even find a vintage Who concert from a tape source. So we are proud to offer you a genuine Keith Moon era show sourced from a tape instead of the usual lame-ass bootleg cd source.

This cassette is most likely 3rd or 4th gen copy from the master as best as can be determined but since we don't have a list of names in the trade history there is no sense in bullshitting you. The sound is good to very good.

~KEITH MOON: "I WAS BORN IN BOSTON"~
Tech Notes Known issues with the tape:
? master tape wow/flutter causes levels to vary in places
? several brief dropouts
? complete show not taped, recorder turned off in spots

Steps taken to repair:
? manual gain enveloping to compensate within reason for wow/flutter
? smooth transitions around dropouts
? DC offset correction

What was not done:
? no equalisation
? no noise reduction
? no compression

This is a fantastic Who show from the Lifehouse/Who's Next period. Classic comments from Pete and Keith Moon between songs show just how rowdy and uncouth The Who were at their best.
