A Celebration Based upon the correlation between the cdr I have, and the cover art I have included courtesy of u2.depot, the original taping information on the cover art probably applies to this. cdr > EAC to wav > MKWact to shn Quality? Sounds like a good soundboard to me... This was the second of two nights at the Ritz. "The second show is the longest U2 performance to date: 80 minutes. After Rejoice Adam's birthday receives attention for the third time in one week when Bono lies, "What do you think of a bass player who's reached the fine age of 22 yesterday?" and sings Happy Birthday to Adam. After Electric Co., Bono talks about the first time they played here, in December, 1980. "I wasn't sure what was going on, because I was looking over people at the balcony and I kinda felt ' Oh, well, you know, they're coming to look and see as if we were a circus or something, but we weren't. And now, we came back here because this is right for us to do this. Last night and tonight have just proved that it can happen in here. It's been really good! I met somebody about a week ago, when we were in this restaurant in Florida, and he said: 'Hey, I saw you at the Ritz. I was one of the guys up on the balcony, when you started shouting at me.' He said that he got up off his ass and he 'got into it', whatever that means. I think it means something good, to me anyway." The show gets the crowd up from their seats. Bono reacts, "Hey, will you look at this, a standing ovation, wow! Oh boy, crazy!" He says that it will take a while before U2 will return, because they have been on tour for so long. He points to Edge's jaw as proof: "The Edge's mother doesn't even remember what he looks like. He's even grown a beard, look at this! I'm all against facial hair myself!" Southern Man is performed together with Garland Jeffreys, who happens to be in town. Neither of them know the lyrics. "We don't know the words but we hope you understand," Bono sings, and changes the song into a conversation. "Now, tell me Garland, how are you these days?" "Pretty good, Bono!" "When I first met him," Bono says, "he said: You got two months left to keep singing the way you do. So, then I tried singing like him." They jam for a while before Bono thanks Garland for his presence. The band return for a festive extra encore of A Celebration to wind up two successful shows. |
