| Notes | Born on the island of St. Kitts, British singer/songwriter Joan Armatrading was her country's first Black woman to make commercial inroads into her chosen genre, spicing her take on folk with bits of soul and reggae. Her albums always sold well in the U.K. to her established fan base, but only respectably in the U.S., where it took her until 1980 to have a real hit (the all-electric ?Me Myself I?). To this day Armatrading remains largely a cult artist with a small but devoted following in America, never quite achieving the stardom she had in Britain, though she has been successful enough to record regularly with many varied artists and remains prominent and on tour well into the new millennium. This is a great show, with all the early hits, tight band and great sound. The date is almost certainly wrong, as is the venue, which should be the Ahoy in Rotterdam (pretty obvious since this is an FM Broadcast and the DJ DOESN?T speak English!!). Good news is that the etree setlist is correct, except for the ???? for track eight which is actually interview material and the track ?Love By You?. There are a couple of DJ interruptions and the end of the last song is cut off by a DJ outro. A great Armatrading show with a hot band and sax player. Thanks Ed for always coming thru with the goods! :) |
