Note: The term "ghazal" refers to the dying art of ancient Sufic poetry to semi classical music. Ghazal's existed along the silk road in the north spanning from Iraq all the way to eastern northern India. Predominantly muslim saints but not limited this faith, they would write their "ghazals" to be able to fit in certain time meters prevalent to the music of the region and time. The music, as well as the poetry, was constantly changing through the influence of Persia through the silk road and traditional south indian Karnatic music in South. What you hear today as North Indian classical music is but one result of the influence of many different "fusions" of ideas spanning from the 12th century to the 18th century. The first disc contains individual solos or introductions of each specific instrument, gaining a feeling of the richness and capabilities which each instrument can convey in the hands of a master. The second contains a fusion the instruments in the ghazal ensemble.
