The Waterboys   06/16/2001

Finsbury Park, London, England
Media Audio CDR   1 disc
Notes Led by the literate singer/songwriter Mike Scott, the group's sole constant member, the mercurial Waterboys formed in London in 1981. The band is named after a line in the Lou Reed song "The Kids" but wholly appropriate given Scott's recurring lyrical fascination with sea imagery. The Waterboys was also the first time I heard Keyboardist Karl Wallinger in action. After 1985's "This Is the Sea" and the hit single "The Whole of the Moon" Wallinger went on to start his own group, one of my all-time favorites, "World Party". Mike Scott resurrected the Waterboys name in 2000 and the subsequent tours proved quite sucessful. This show is from the Fleadh Festival and covers a wide range of material from the bands long and diverse background. Mike Scott (Guitar, Vocals);
Steve Wickham (Fiddle, Mandolin);
Richard Naiff (Keys); Theremin
Jo Wadeson (Bass);
Jay Dee Daughtery (Drums); Ian McNabb (Keyboards on Savage Earth Heart). A real beauty this one. Thanks so much Ed!
