| Notes | "This set includes at least one performance of each song done from the 2005 Devils and Dust Tour. That includes songs done on multiple instruments, such as "If I Should Fall Behind" and "Atlantic City," and even songs done solo and with guests were included in both ways, such as "Drive All Night," "Thundercrack," "This Hard Land," and "Sunny Day." The primary selection criteria for the set was sound quality, which is why you'll find a ton of tracks from the Crystal Cat releases and the Godfather release of 8/7. Of course, it doesn't hurt that the Grand Rapids and Milwaukee shows were among the best of the tour and both were captured in excellent recordings. The first two discs of the song comprise what I would consider an ideal or perfect show within the framework that Bruce sculpted the set list. Most of the tour staples are included in these two discs, and most of these recordings were definitely selected based solely on sound quality. As per my usual pattern, the remaining nine discs were put together viewing each disc as a mini-show, following the same basic structure Bruce utilized for creating the set list. There are a few songs included twice despite being similar in arrangement and feel. First on that list is "Land of Hope and Dreams," versions of which are included from 10/30 and 5/11. The May 11 performance of that song featured Bruce breaking a string that resulted in an a cappella performance of the middle chorus, which was simply one of "the" moments of the whole tour. The October 30 performance is straight-forward and the sound quality is top notch. I also included two different versions of "Incident on 57th Street" for a similar reason. The June 16 performance from Dusseldorf found Bruce getting lost playing the end of the song, and the melody is gorgeous. Another one of those "this has to be included" performances. Of course, the performance from November 8 in Philly features the hilarious "Pull down your pants" introduction. "Long Time Comin'" is also featured in two different places, both in the "ideal show" section and on the very theme-oriented disc four. It wasn't originally planned to be on there twice, like the aforementioned two songs, but how could I have a father and son themed disc without that one?" -Flynn |
