| Notes | The final Naked City shows happened during 'Zorn Month' at the old Knitting Factory. An entire month reprising all of Zorn's many projects and giving a night or two to each in celebration of his 40th birthday and overlapping with the Jewish New Year. Naked City got 4 consecutive nights, Weds through Saturday, with 2 sets each night. During these 8 sets, they would play all their music in relatively chronological order from when it was written or brought into their repertoire. With the exception of a few repeats and some overlooked cover tunes, that's what they did. The last set was then given the position of "request set" and for the 1st 3 nights there was a sheet downstairs you could fill out your requests on. Made sense, I guess, because it really was the same 200 people at the shows every night. Here is the first night, culled from 2nd generation cassettes and taped from right up front so there is more stage banter and amps than there is PA. Master Audience Cassettes (1) > Maxell XLII-S Cassettes (2) > Teac Esoteric Cassette Deck > Onkyo SE-U55 > Macintosh Hard Drive > Sound Studio for edits, track splits > FLAC > You Sector Boundaries aligned. No EQ or fiddling. This is essentially a clone of the master cassette, with the following changes made: 1) Audience applause brought down 60%. 2) Minor lowering of whoops and screams, about 10 total. 3) Tape flips made during applause were smoothed together. 4) A large tape flip during "A Shot In The Dark" cuts out most of Wayne's solo. Since I could find no alternate tape, this has been cross-faded together. If you are counting bars, you'll find it, but it seemed more appropriate rather than patching a spot from a different performance. See the Extras folder for more. _______________________________________________ Please Note that while this was one of those Front-Row-Taped-With-The-Artist's-Consent tapes, I doubt the artist(s) really thought much about the advent of Bittorrent. I'm positive that the taper did not. The work and financial sacrifice of the artists that made this music should be recognized by those on the receiving end and you really ought to cough up something for the cause. Whether it is a donation to The Stone: http://www.thestonenyc.com/support.html or just purchasing more official product from the artists websites. So PLEASE support the artists the way you support your High-Speed Internet provider and your supplier of japanese data discs: buy product and go to their shows. Better yet, go to the shows and buy product AT the shows. The amount of work that went into transferring these tapes & getting this right as well as getting this to into your hands pales in comparison to the life work of the musicians involved, so please respect all involved and keep this free for trade amongst fans and students alike. DO NOT distribute MP3 files from this set. Pass the whole thing just like this to the next person in line. Easy Listening! _______________________________________________ _______________________________________________ ZORNFEST93-NC01-Disc1 [79:31] 9/15/1993 Knitting Factory, NYC. 80minutes (2nd gen>CDR) early set: 01. The big empty space on disc 3 would be a good space for that and for some of the interviews they broadcast as well. |
