Mogwai   10/17/1996

King Tut's Wah-Wah Hut - Ten Day Weekend Festival, Glasgow, Scotland
Source FM > ANA(M) > Sony MDS JE530 > optical out > Edirol UA-1D > USB > WAV > CDR(1) > EAC > WAV > FLAC
Media Flac CDR   1 disc
Tech Notes UPDATE NUMBER TWO: The complete FM broadcast surfaced recently, and it's heads-over-tails a better recording that what currently circulates. Plus the speed is correct. I've replaced my previous copy with this one. Recommended!

UPDATE: After noticing James's comment of the fast speed of this recording, I decided to correct it with Goldwave--my first experience doing so. Comparing it with "Government Commissions" and "4 Satin," I think I've got the right speed down. The new version of the 1996-10-17 show can be found as filler on the Mogwai 2003-09-20 data disc, and can be requested separately. Note to self: 1996-04-26, 1996-06-14, 1996-10-17 (incomplete) and 1996-12-22 shows on one data disc.

Notes - Finally! The complete show. This is a great, moody early mogwai set in pristine quality. There's some hiss, but it's a substantial upgrade over the poor two track recording previously circulating.

Mogwai's first known FM radio broadcast.

Features David Jack on synth on most songs, giving the gig a unique feel amongst Mogwai recordings.

The taper, Paul Jamieson, confirmed to Rob Strong that he had long since thrown away his collection of tapes. He kindly sent Rob the MD on to which he'd copied his tape master.

Remastered by jadg2 from an audio cd of the original wav file.

Remaster Details - Sonicstage Mastering Studio, with -4.0db above 14.3kHz, -7.5db renaissance bass plug-in at 80Hz, Stereo Imager with -3.0 rotation and -5 degrees asymmetry, Oxford Inflator with +1.0db , level 50, 0 curve. Overall effect is to boost the volume, whilst reducing the hiss slightly, without using a "dehissing" software, which would have further destroyed the high-end.
