| Notes | Note: these notes are not mine, but came to me with my copies. seebs. some comments on the recording > originally it's a betty cantor nagra master ... dicks original analog to digital transfer was on his teac 1/2 track R2R (forget model#) > sony pcm r-500 dat ... he was formulating a DP that eventually encompassed 2/5/78 (what pick # was that?) and as was his custom he would grab a run of shows all in a row to investigate ... these uptowns were in that grab ... he sent his datX0 to RB (who had the amazing habit of NOT keeping stuff that dick would send him if he did not like it) you got to admire RB for sticking to his principles : ) I asked dick if i could have copies & the next thing i know RB sends me HIS dats .. which is what i am transferring from, so these are datX1 clones (not bad : ) funny thing is that a couple of months after these events RB wanted them back & by then the dats had fallen into the morass from which they were recently liberated ... betty made the best recordings, her nagra could really saturate the tape with minimal noise, on this one the bass response is fantastic, keith's piano is a bit rasps at times. the mix is generally great, but it does wander around more then usual, especially in "peggy-o" ... "promised land" comes in progress & there is a reel flip during the jam after "eyes" ... no other flaws really jumped out at me ... it's a very clean recording & you can boost the high end a bit if you are so inclined ... my transfer was as simple as could be > RB's datX1 > playback on my sony pcm-r700 > hard drive via the ZA2 (no sample rate conversion was needed) obviously no processing at all (peaks around 2db) tracked & burned with cd architect ... what detail am i forgetting? i hope none : ) |
