Columbia probably recorded these shows, and the Fillmore certainly did. None of the recordings of this show that I have heard includes "Directions," the standard set-opener..." Number of Discs: 1 Artwork: none Total running time: 63m 47s Notes: Some reviews from the original upload: nobody: Listening to this now, this performance is utterly blistering and the SQ is tippity-topnotch, it merits another thanks. The poor Fillmore hippies must've been carried out of this gig on stretchers. milesian: This is pretty special. Great proof that Miles knew how to put a band together. Where'd you find this, RB? A zillion stars for this and for you. Bartz is killin' on this night, Keith is gettin' down in the swamp for some thick funky slime, and Jack is doin' some slick stuff throughout. Oh, and did I mention that Bartz is killin'? Wonder how the phantom promo spot got merged onto the tape at just after three minutes on track two. It's pretty funny to hear. Didn't Miles call Steve Miller something like a "sorry-assed cat?" Or was it another word in place of "cat?" Mazeppa: This recording is really clean, thanks. I read the Miles autobiography. He referred to Steve Miller as "some sorry-ass guitar player named Steve Miller" as if no one would have remembered him. He was talking about how he stalled so that all these rockers like Miller and Leon Russell would have to play first and he would close. nobody: I have played this no less than 5 times in 12 hours, it's in danger of sliding into the top 3 Miles gigs I've ever heard... all 7 of them are incinerating the place but the soloists must've sprung open the 3rd eyes of some people that night, Bartz and KJ especially. Gary is on another planet in this, just out to breakfast, lunch, dinner and a midnight snack, it's mindblowing what he's playing. KJ sounds pretty damn good for someone that hated the electric instruments so passionately, some of the sounds he's chiming in with sound like transmissions from an alien civilization billions of years ahead of ours in evolutionary terms. This is as Live and as Evil as it gets folks. I just picture the hippies sitting on their hands watching this wishing the band would finish up so Leon Russell could play. However, hippies that were on acid at this went directly from the opening act to monasteries in the Himalayas, where they remain to this day I'm afraid. IMettaMan: Wow, this is just too cool. This is almost as good SQ as the 'vault leaks' of the Cellar Door stuff. I agree 100% with you about who's kicking butt on this night, Milesian, but isn't it simply amazing how the material Miles' band was playing was transformed when Henderson came on board? IM Info: According to P.Losin: "The Davis Septet opened for Leon Russell and Sea Train for four nights at the Fillmore West, October 15-18 (Thursday-Sunday). Columbia probably recorded these shows, and the Fillmore certainly did. None of the recordings of this show that I have heard includes "Directions," the standard set-opener..." (from the original announce) - This is not taken from the Fillmore Tree. The Fillmore Tree version is about 25 mns. This here is almost the complete show, only "Directions", the set-opener is missing: total time is about 64 mns. This FM source sounds great. The radio broadcast voiceover announcement on track 2 is not distracting. In fact it sounds rather cool and you will think it is part of the song.
