Wow talk about a long time in coming. I started this project about three years ago when I found these old Maxell tapes in my basement. As you can imagine after sitting for at least ten years they sounded really bad. I almost scrapped trying to get some good sound out of them on several occasions, but am happy with the final outcome. This version of these tapes has never been traded, and I think this has as good of sound as these old Maxells can muster. I have not seen this show traded much, and it doesn't show up on many trade lists, so I think it is pretty much uncirculated.

Now about the show. It was 1988, and Johnny and the boys were coming off some personnel changes, and Johnnys solo album "Slow Dance". WNEW had broadcast a Halloween show (which I sourced here on Dime) just a few months earlier, and now a little radio station out of Long Branch NJ known as Y-107 was about to broadcast a New Years Show. The show was taped on December 29th, or 30th at the Paramount Theatre in Asbury Park, and broadcast on the 31st. The CD's in this set are the result of that broadcast. For some reason the reception was poor that night and there are some places where the station drifts a bit, but it is nothing that ruins the set. There is also a small amount of wow and flutter on the first song of the show as a result of the long storage, but that disappears quickly. I did minimal noise reduction, because IMO it compresses the sound too much, so I would rather hear a little hiss than something with muted highs. The show itself was a good one, though not classic like the two months prior Halloween show. There are some standouts though that make this set worth having, namely Bobby Bandieras tribute to Roy Orbison when he sings Crying, or the great acoustic versions of Fade Away, and Hearts Of Stone. I have included some artwork that was made with period correct images, as I shot these at various concerts through the 80's. Well that's it, there is not much left in my personal vaults that is not circulating except for some old Robert Hazard, not sure if there is much call for those shows though.
