The quality of this performance by Miles Davis exhibits a marked decline from previous years due to his hitting bottom with his heroin addiction. According to biographical sources no one was more aware of this than Miles himself, and it was in the winter of 1953-1954 that he returned to East St. Louis and locked himself in a guest room in his father's farm for seven days until the drug was fully out of his system. |
