| Tech Notes | This is the only known recording of the original BS&T line-up, and was recorded on their first ever tour just a week after their debut album was released. This is a great sounding audience recording of BS&T opening for Big Brother and the Holding Company (you can hear Janis wailing in the backround during the interview). Al Kooper himself told me that no live recordings of the original line-up exist, and he that he doesn’t even have any. But... I have found this gem and this is the first time it has ever been released anywhere. A friend of mine had told me that he had interviewed and recorded numerous acts in Boston during the 60’s, and he had a bunch of ¼ tapes stored in a chest. From what he remembered, he had a Jimi Hendrix interview and a Rolling Stones concert, but hadn’t heard the tapes in 37 years so he was unsure of what was on them, if anything at all. We found three tapes one labeled “Jimi Hendrix interview” and the two others labeled “Rolling Stones, Terry Reid & BB King, Boston Garden 1968”. Of course the Hendrix interview was what I wanted to hear, so we loaded the tape and Jimi starts talking for 20 minutes, then Mitch and Noel. Anyway, we let the tape roll and find this rare BS&T concert and interview on the same tape. I contacted the Hendrix family, we came to an agreement about the tape and they took it to LA so Eddie Kramer could transfer and archive it. I told them that there was a very rare BS&T recording also on the tape, and Mr. Kramer was kind enough to transfer it for me before it went into the Hendrix Vaults. Enjoy! |
