Bob Dylan   03/27/1965

Civic Auditorium, Santa Monica, CA
Media LB-4841
Notes LB-4841, (49min), version "b"; AUD, The legend behind this 1965 audience recording is that, two girls smuggled a reel-to-reel tape recorder into, the show. Listening to this is like watching a documentary, film: it does capture the moment. Our heroines turned off, the recorder at times, probably to save battery power, and some tracks are incomplete. "With God On Our Side", ends abruptly; "It Ain't Me Babe" is also cut short. Some, songs may just be missing entirely (Hattie Carroll)., At times the girls can be heard, but they're not that, intrusive; mostly they seem to be worried about whether, the recorder is working. It was, and the tape isn't, all that bad, considering the circumstances., This may not be a pristine document like today's audience, recordings, but it does put you in the room at a gig, on Dylan's last entirely solo American tour.; bittorrent download 05/07; has a light tv band and levels are to the maximum; in 3-way comparison LB-2196 sounds clearer because it has the least hiss; this one sounds harsher and more distorted like its levels were over raised which it looks like they were; (did not listen to all of this)
