COMMENT

Filmed by an audience member at the left hand side of the stage to the rear of the arena. The person filming uses the zoom for nearly the entire duration of the show, with some excellent close up shots. The picture can be quite dark in parts of the show, especially the bluesy guitar jam (Thrill Is Gone / A Case Of You), however on the whole it is very enjoyable and very good quality. The view is unobstructed for the majority of the footage, but during the crowd-pleasers (Take Me With U / Raspberry Beret especially) there are arms/heads/fat asses in the way, and the poor guy filming has to concentrate on Rhonda strumming away. In other parts the camera shakes about or goes completely black - but these problems make up only 5% of the recording and are pretty minimal. The show is a fairly typical Jam Of The Year show, but what makes it so special and enjoyable is Prince's fantastic mood. From the moment he hits the stage he's doing the splits (5 in a row at one point), humping his piano, crawling on all fours on the floor, and having a great time. I know I seem to say it on just about EVERY 1997 DVD I comment on, but the bass on 'Face Down' is fucking amazing!! He's slapping it and playing it like it's an electric guitar and you just KNOW that the folks in the audience can feel it going through their bones - it's astoundingly good. All in all this is an excellent piece of footage from the Jam Of The Year tour. I am aware that this footage is also circulating as a 1 DVDR release with no difference (same source, same complete footage).
