This is the complete 2nd performance. The 1st was a warm-up gig in Norfolk of which no known recording has surfaced. The 3rd was the officially released "801 Live" version at Queen Elizabeth Hall on September 3, 1976 which can be bought here (with 2 bonus tracks !) http://www.manzanera.com/801Live1.htm Visiting this site is strongly recommended as there is a wealth of additional photos and tons of information and reviews of the show. In addition to that information, I've combined some of my own knowledge. Simon's drums are Ludwig (not Pearl) as seen on the LP rear photo. Eno's guitar is a Starway (I own one) Eno's keyboard is a Minimoog Model D (I own one of these too !) and I'm quite sure the Minimoog is on top of a Farfisa organ). Other stuff on the 1976 Reading Festival in general can be found here : http://www.strictlyreading.co.uk/index.php?q=gallery&g2_itemId=241 http://www.vandergraafgenerator.co.uk/reading.htm http://www.readingmuseum.org.uk/collections/festival/search.asp The Fat Lady of Limbourg has appeared previously on numerous bootlegs (most notably the Eno bootleg entitled "Dali's Car"), but never officially. The entire concert however is much less widely circulated. A very short insignificant tape splice appears between The Fat Lady of Limbourg and Diamond Head. An announcement is made by Phil naming the previous track as well as the upcoming track confirming that no music was lost during the splice. The rare photos I've included in the cover art are the best I could do with some low res scans donated to me from a guy who paid a small fortune for the actual photos on eBay. They were taken at this Reading Festival show. Normally I would have made a more balanced band representation, but all of these rare unpublished photos were of Eno only. It's no surprise that Eno was the focus of much attention, (due to the rarity of his post-Roxy public appearances) despite it being rightfully billed as "Phil Manzanera" featuring Eno et al. |
