OK, I know you guys might think that Candy Dulfer is a "Smooth Jazz" artist. So if you opened
this because you like Kenny G and his syrupy sweet soprano sax, doing soothing covers of old R&B
ballads with some strings, played at the dentist's office, well you better pass on this one. This is
Funk. This is Rock n Roll. This is high strung jazz. The concert reminded me of Rick James
with a hot sax. This is not Smooth Jazz.

Candy Dulfer is a Dutch sax player that got her start at age 18 with a top 10 hit with Dave Stewart
called "Lily Was Here" (Track 14) From there it got even better. She did a stint with Prince, who supposedly
wrote a song about her, and two years with Van Morrison, including the album "A Night in San Franciso"
(which actually should be titled a "Night in Santa Rosa, because that's where it was recorded). Along
with Brian Kennedy on vocals, that CD is arguably the best Van Morrison live CD.

This concert catches Candy on her 40th birthday at the Thorton Winery in Temecula, California, a spectacular
low key venue on the top of a windy mountain in Southern California. Wearing a short black dress, this woman
is smoking hot for a 40 year old. She was feeling great, and even though there were no stage lights and it was
terribly dark, she played well past sunset, and we had to use flashlights to find our way out.

The highlights included Track 7 "Don't Go" which featured a 4 minute blistering guitar solo by long time Dutch
guitarist Ulco Bed. Also of note is a Prince song about Candy, "Life of the Party" (Track 10) and "On and On" (Track 4)
I've included a bunch of samples, just because the concert genre was so varied.

I would consider this an "A" recording, but it was a windy venue, and notwithstanding sox and
windscreens over the mikes, some wind got through. In addition, there are the ever present vapid conversations
of drunks. So it is rated an A- ......... Enjoy.
