| Tech Notes | "Total time: 73:59 This recording is a mix of audience and soundboard. It started out as my master audience tape, recorded with a hand-held tape recorder connected to two fairly decent external microphones. Then I got ahold of a copy of the soundboard recording, but it was incomplete - it started near the end of the fourth song, and because the band had no vocal mics (their music is all instrumental) and the audience had no mic, you couldn't hear any of the stage annoucements, applause or band/audience interaction on the soundboard recording. So I took the two and combined them, trying to get the best possible sound quality for the actual music, but keep the "live feel" by adding in the audience recording of the stage annoucements, etc. Plus I grafted on the missing first few songs from the audienece tape. So you'll notice the sound quality varying throughout the set, but overall it's pretty good to very good. Aud > Cassette > CoolEdit > WAV + Soundboard > ? > CDR > Exact Audio Copy > WAV combined with CoolEdit > Flac Frontend > FLAC Audience portion taped with a Panasonic portable tape recorder connected to 2 external mics. Recorded to Maxell XLII 90 min tape. Converted to WAV using an Onkyo TA-RW311 tape deck fed into an Compac Presario PC, using Cool Edit 96. If you enjoy this set, please purchase the band's CD "Racket Science" (from which most of this show comes), and consider attending ProgDay (every Labor Day weekend in Chapel Hill, NC - www.progday.com). The festival operates on a shoestring budget every year, and a handful of tickets sold or not sold can make or break the best progressive rock festival around. I think I might have forgotten to adjust the camer's clock for daylight saving's time or something." |
