This is the first of the truly excellent recordings from the Work Tour. I understand that the Circle Pavilion, is like many of the other venues on this tour, a basketball arena with much-maligned acoustics. However this recording, I hope you will agree, is pretty darned good.

This show has a cool setlist with Harborcoat, Wolves, Crazy in addition to the usual suspects. Plus this is first appearance in this series of the fledgling Pop Song 89 (which premiered live in Indiana on 10/27/87). The other main highlight is the 5 min introduction to Auctioneer (which though long is by no means the longest), which I felt deserved it’s own track marker.

There is another recording of this show which was taped by somebody called “David” (not Dave Thomas), and it is also pretty wonderful, but sadly there is 45mins missing from the middle of the copy I have. The record presented to you is pretty much complete save for the chunk missing from start of Oddfellows.

Tomorrow I’ll be upping a diamond find, a first gen recording of 11/5/87 at the same venue, it’s a beautiful recording and worth waiting for.
