FM->AMPEX reel-to-reel tape

This concert was sent to radio stations on reel-to-reel from Warner Bros. Records. Fans of Randy Newman probably know more about this recording than I do - but it has always been a favorite of mine. There is a lot of interplay with the audience, especially late in the show when Randy Newman talks about writing the score for "Ragtime."

For years I played a cassette copy of this that I had taped when it first aired in my market in 1978. Years later I ran across a large reel at an estate sale. The cover of the AMPEX box is as it appears as the front jpeg that is included. There was a track sheet with notes to the late night announcer as to which commercials to include between the two halves of the show. These sheets are reproduced on the back jpeg.

I have looked for this as a CD on the web for awhile. Finding nothing I have chosen to post it here. There may be some frequency imperfections due to the transfer. Hopefully it is good enough for you to play endlessly on your car stereo.

Grabbed this at TTD today (thanks to original seeder!) and I am seeding this here for a few reasons. First, I am a generous soul, though not in bed, thus I don't think people who don't have accounts at TTD should be exclusded from hearing this fine piece of history. Second, a comment on the TTD suggested this torrent is an upgrade to a previous set torrented on Dime at some point, so I figure many of you will appreciate this. Third, and most importantly, there were some minor flaws with the original torrent that I was able to correct myself, namely, the formatting in the original info file was messed up, making it virtually unreadable (like my unpublished novel!), and the original seeder didn't bother to number the tracks, making this collection of songs a real pain in the kiester, mister, to burn to CD and/or listen to in the correct order. Welp, these minor problems have been corrected. Huzzah!

Don't sell, don't down-convert, don't call me daughter.
