| Tech Notes | Talking Heads and Flamin' Oh's 1978-08-26 Minneapolis Live at Jay's Longhorn 14 S. 5th Street Minneapolis, MN August 26, 1978 Source: Panasonic RQ-4135 mono cassette recorder (audience recording) Transfer: Onkyo TA-W80 > Zoom H2 (16/44.1 .wav) > Audacity .wav > Trader's Little Helper .flac WARNING: This is a document of a great evening of summer 1978 music at the Longhorn in downtown Minneapolis, but it is a crappy lo-fi mono recording that suffers from the usual chatter of nearby fans. The Flamin' Oh's (one of the top Minneapolis bands of the time) opened for Talking Heads (who were touring to promote their second album, "More Songs About Music and Food"). Despite the obvious flaws, of possible interest is an early version of a song that would appear on "Fear of Music" as "Drugs" (last track here). Flamin' Oh's Robert Wilkinson and Johnny Rey (vocals and guitars), Jody Ray (bass guitar), Bob Meide (percussion) and Joseph Behrend (keyboards and vocals). 01 Terry's First (Wilkenson vocal) 4:09 02 Smart Girl (Wilkenson vocal) 3:10 03 America (Wilkenson vocal) 3:30 04 I Feel Strange (Rey vocal) 3:26 05 Another Hit and Run (Rey vocal) 3:27 06 Medical Mess (Behrend vocal) 1:40 Talking Heads David Byrne (lead vocals and guitars), Chris Frantz (drums), Jerry Harrison (keyboards and guitars), Tina Weymouth (bass). 07 The Big Country 5;13 08 Warning Sign 4:28 09 The Book I Read 5:03 10 Stay Hungry 2:55 11 Artists Only 5:10 12 Tentative Decisions 3:41 13 Who Is It? 1:43 14 Electricity (Drugs) 3:12 In memory of Joseph Henry Behrend *Born March 30, 1953, Madison, SD *Brutally murdered by persons unknown, who beat his head with his own guitar and left him to die in the pool of his own blood, August 19, 1986, Minneapolis, MN *It was suggested that Joe was killed for crossing a South American cocaine cartel which was under the protection of the local police department. *Just another casualty of prohibition and the drug wars? http://flaminohs.com/flaminoh.htm http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talking_Heads **NOT FOR COMMERCIAL USE OR SALE** |
