| Notes | Beck in a Cage Jeff Beck (who else)- guitar Tony Hymas- keyboards Simon Phillips-drums the Cage Amherst, Mass. U.S.A. October 9, 1980 performance quality: A (hot show!) recording quality: B to mostly B+ (the first 51 seconds are too loud/bassy and distorted in master tape, it gets alot better after that) source: 1st generation audience tape (recording equipment unknown) runtime: 82:32 lineage: master > my copy (the master and my copy are both Maxell XLII cassettes with no dolby) > soundforge 4.5 (WAV) > FLAC 6 > torrentially yours. setlist 1: star cycle 2: el Becko 3: too much to lose 4: the pump 5: cuz we've ended as lovers 6: space boogie 7: freeway jam 8: led boots 9: diamond dust 10: scatterbrain 11: blue wind 12: goodbye pork pie hat > you never know comments: I first posted this as one of my 1st uploads, before I knew how to correctly title torrent files, So I have posted this with new fpts, MD5 and slightly altered info file from before, the rest is the same as before so this is essentially a reseed. (also full set list). I've never heard of "the cage" except for this one and only concert. I was first told years ago it's a a small theater, actually it's a basketball court (home of Umass Minutemen before they built the Mullins Center in the early 90's) so the acoustics aren't very good, but this sounds pretty good considering that, and this is one of 3 very hot Jeff Beck shows I have to share with the dime community. The other 2 are from master tapes, 89 and 95, (and in my other computer) this is from a nice 1st generation copy from a master tape. I first got a very inferior quality tape of this concert before getting this one, and this is the 1st time I've seeded it. If you haven't heard this and you like Jeff Beck at all, you will enjoy this. It burns! I believe it is the whole concert except for just a few seconds of track 8 for a quick tape flip. There was time for a clean flip but the taper got caught napping for a moment. The 1st 51 seconds are overmodulated in the original recording, but not in this one. Once the levels get set right the rest of it is consistent and quite good. Sounds like the taper was fairly close to the stage and not too far over to either side of it. Not sure what was used to record it, but the mikes sound like they're decent ones (not great). The fidelity is not the greatest, but enough to appreciate a very fine show from Jeff and Simon Phillips especially. It's better than you'd get with a Sony 310 and the built in mikes. The guitar and drum playing is very strong. Hymas was good too, and Beck and Phillips had a great night in Western Mass. thanks to fzmoi69 for this fine Beck recording. Do not sell this recording. Trade freely and losslessly. A BeckNbacker Production. |
