Big Audio Dynamite I   03/14/1987

The Catalyst, Santa Cruz, CA
Source Soundboard/Audience
Media CDR   2 discs
Notes DVD 114; lineage: Primary source [all except last 2 1/2 minutes]: Monitor soundboard feed with 2 Crown PZM microphones mounted on the low ceiling over the stage, 2 Nakamichi cm300 microphones (also over the stage) and one other ambient microphone mounted on balcony railing - Live matrix mix.

Dolby C Maxell UDXLII-S90 cassette > Sony auto-reverse cassette deck. Transferred with Nakamichi Dragon (Dolby C decoded) > Macintosh with DigiDesign AudioMedia III card > Pro Tools (minor "nip and tuck" edits, normalization and tracking) > AIFF > xACT (FLAC level 8 files sector boundaries verified). md5 file created with checkSUM+.

The Catalyst matrix mixes tended to be ambient-sounding to add presence to the dry monitor board signal so please don't complain that this doesn't sound enough like a soundboard recording. Since the mix was done live, this is all that there is...

Alternate source used for end of last song: Nakamichi cm300 microphones > Sony TCD-5M / transfer from master cassette / taper : markp
