comments:
Alot to like with this show (although just when they need to do it most,
Brand X gave up on announcing who is in their band, now that I never know
who will be there), this time Goodsall must have been there, cuz nobody
I've ever heard sounds like he does. Pierre Moerlen replaced Frank Katz
for the 1997 tour, I think Frank Katz was the drummer in this show (he was
quite good here). This Brand X did a webcast from the House of Blues in
Hollywood, Ca. This torrent comes from what sounds like a nice hall, it's
got good presence, not "generated" sounding (but you can tell it's not from
a master, only slight noise, mainly because right channel in source was low.
They are balanced on here, as in all my uploads to come). They did alot
more old songs (and good ones) than in either of the 92 shows I've heard
(Cambridge and N.Y.C.), also alot fewer new ones. If this isn't Goodsall,
it's the best impersonater of him ever, and not only that, he sounded good.
He did not sound like he was struggling through it at all, which is nice
to hear from a very good, very slim-built guitarist with tendonitis problems.
If you play like John Goodsall plays long enough, it's enough to give anybody
tendonitis problems. Pretty cool to hear them do the Mahavishnu (75) tune too.
I think this is the entire show, and nothing is cut except the opening seconds
of Disco Suicide (the synthie intro part). Don't be put off that it's a recent
show, I could post this as a 1979 show and nobody would know differently until
the last 2 songs (the by the way, here's some of our new music part of the show).
I thought this was a nice show to hear, and I hope you Percyfolk do too.
If Percy's not there, I won't call it "Brand X" no matter what they call it,
but I think Percy is the one constant of this group all the way through, and I'm
quite sure he is present on every one of my Brand X uploads. (he may be the only
one on all of them) If you like the early stuff, I have a few to offer from the
70's including 4 shows from my master auds. This is the most recent Brand X I have
to up, and I did it mainly because it is a fine show. (I was planning originally
to only upload 70's shows of Brand X only to be stricken with a moderate Jones
for more Perciness.)
