Notes:
JEMS master recording. This run of shows by The Who at Madison Square Garden in 1979 are considered by JEMS must have essential shows for the performances which were some of the best they ever did. Roger Daltrey leads the crowd in singing happy birthday to Kenney Jones during his introduction to the audience after Can't Explain.

After a night off, the Who return to Madison Square Garden for their 3rd show there and 5th of the NY/NJ run. They are firing on all cylinders this night which I think was the best of the run. This show which was Kenney Jones birthday features a great main set with a longer intro to Pinball Wizard, the first appearance of 'Dance It Away' which would become a staple of the live sets for the '79-'80 tour, a surprisingly placed 'Dreaming From The Waist' and another great PT/Rabbit improvisation leading up to 'Won't Get Fooled Again'.
The encore again finds PT switching to bass and JAE strapping on the 8 string bass for 'Trick of the Light' which is followed by a long jam starting with 'Shaking All Over' and ending with the 2nd appearance in this group of shows of 'That's Rock and Roll!'. This run of shows also saw Pete begin using Schecter guitars in addition to his then-mainstay Gibson Les Pauls. He noticably enjoyed playing the new guitars, which appeared to be much lighter than the Les Pauls and while initially used for just a couple of songs, soon became the main guitar of the shows.
