| Notes | BBC Special, Bristol, 1989-2-12 (AVI video)45'. The Seeder: "this was recorded from Italian RAISAT satellite TV channel in recent years. I received the file on a CD in a trade. there is another file doing the rounds on E-mule which, though a bit bigger in size, is a VHS transfer. this one, although smaller, is a digital transfer and has better definition. Italian music journalist Vittorio Castelnuovo introduces the archival programme with a heartfelt eulogy for the late Simon Jeffes' Orchestra. Between songs, Simon Jeffes is interviewed (with Italian subtitles). for PCO aficionados, there are one or two rarities of note here: Air a Danser has an excised opening phrase, whereas Numbers 1-4 opens with Jeffes striking a Tibetan prayer bowl (more or less) in time. beautiful setting, with houseplants in the centre surrounded by the Orchestra, as well as hanging nets and birdcages, providing a becomingly utopian ambience. fine, if obviously '80s-style, post-production by the Beeb. a curio: saxophonist and 'Nightmusic' TV show host David Sanborn is visible in the audience, clapping (it seems to me)." |
