J-Card Comment I accompanied the taper to this show and it was a real experience. Every
heavy-metal stoner in Pittsburgh and surrounding areas was there and
everyone was very loaded to say the least. I had never seen the band before
and while I came away from the concert not a real big Metallica fan, it was
an enjoyable and interesting experience. Queensryche opened and they played
a great 45 minute set to an enthusiastic crowd. It was Jason's birthday so
you can call this gig "Jason's Birthday Party" if you're into naming your
live shows. The band played for about a minute under 2 hours and it was a
ferocious performance. If you want to know my initial impressions of the band
members after my first Metallica concert, here goes. (If you don't care, skip
ahead ; these may not be to your liking).

James: loud-mouthed obnoxious punk. This guy and his stage
banter really got on my nerves quickly.
Jason: pretty good bassist but not incendiary.
Kirk: excellent lead guitarist. This guy shredded all night.
Lars: excellent drummer, his later Congressional (or was it the Senate ?)
whining and crying notwithstanding...

So there you have it. My two cents worth...Didn't mean to piss off any
die-hard fans and I'm not arrogant ; I just thought some people might
be curious about a 1st timer's 1st impressions.

As far as the recording quality goes, it's excellent minus IMHO venturing
into excellent. No hiss, speed problems, distortion, etc. At the end of
MOP (I think) there is a brief thump-thump sound at the end of the guitar
solo. This is familiar to us older guys who've done a lot of recording on
cassette tape. It's a malfunction of the tape that usually occurred at the
end or beginning of a cassette side. It's short and pretty quiet so no big
deal. It's on the master. The entire concert is presented here except for
what I deemed to be boring applause and screaming after certain songs. NO
MUSICAL CONTENT WAS CUT. This is also the raw (undoctored) tape. No EQ or other
sonic screwing around was attempted. The sound quality in the good old Civic
Arena was excellent that night and you're hearing what I heard that evening.
The SQ came through impeccably. Pretty good for a 21-year-old tape made on a
$ 60 USD machine ! Wellllll, that's about all that I have to say so let's get
this show on the road...

This is my 1st upload on TTD and I wanted to pay back all of the great people
who given me so much on this site. If you are a member of Dime, you've no doubt
seen some of my upped shows there ; I hardly ever experience problems upping
shows over there but I've never upped one here so let's hope all goes well...

Finally, no buy, no sell, no mp3. Please seed this as long as you can.
This tape has NOT been widely circulated AT ALL so JUMP ON IT !!!
A very high-energy show in which everybody shines. I will post a sample
or two shortly for those of you still undecided (if I can figure out how)
but I think you'll find that this is a really great-sounding tape and a
welcome addition to any Metallica fan's collection. Well, thanks for reading
this and Mr. Natural would like to add these few comments: have fun, don't
freak out and by all means, enjoy the concert!!!
