"Billy's Home Demos". Really nice sound quality, but the disc is pretty much for die-hards only. Most of the tunes feature Billy running through embryonic acoustic version of the Mellon Collie songs but his voice is strangely subdued, like he was worried about bothering his neighbors. It's interesting to hear him shaping tracks that would later be incredible, but they're not quite there at this stage. Other than a couple of noodly pieces which were never pursued further, nothing on the disc is particularly revelatory. That being said, if work in progress is interesting to you, this is a great document and having alternate versions of some of the never-performed B-sides is a nice draw. I'm glad I have this, but it's definitely not essential. |
