Notes:

These guys were amazing. Listening to the sheer amount
of sound coming off the stage, along with the fact that the
guitarist fed one neck of his instrument into an effects box
that made it sound like everything from a trumpet or saxophone
to a chorus of alien voices, you might not realize that there
were only three guys performing. All three guys were just
jaw-droppingly talented. Their music was entirely instrumental
(aside from a couple sampled voice clips). They describe
themselves as "Sci-Fi Middle-Eastern Fusion", blending rock,
jazz and metal with Indian and Middle Eastern influences.

The raw recording of this set was very muffled and bass heavy,
and that damned over-loud, thumpy kick drum that has plagued all
my recordings of this year's Sunday bands at ProgDay continued to
rear its ugly head. But using CoolEdit's filters, I was able to
reduce the kick drum and bring out some of the high end,
and actually ended up with a very listenable recording.

About ProgDay:

ProgDay is an outdoor festival of progressive rock
that has been held annually since 1995. In 1996 it
was expanded from one day to two and has been featuring
anywhere from eight to eleven progressive rock bands
each year since, with a few more prog bands usually
hosting their own Friday and/or Saturday night events
at nearby venues. It's definitely worth the trip if
you're a prog fan and don't mind a little sun and a
little driving around.

The main event takes place at beautiful Storybook Farm,
unless rain forces it indoors (which has fortunately only
happened a couple times in the festival's history). It's
a relaxed atmosphere, where you can listen and watch from
anywhere you want - if you really like a particular band
or want to get a better look at a piece of equipment,
you can go sit right in front of the stage or stand along
the side of the stage. Some people listen to the bands
while shopping for CDs and merchandise in the vendor tent
or getting food in the pavilion or playing games in the
field behind the audience.

The people are friendly, and the band members often hang out
all weekend taking in the show, selling merchandise and
chatting with fans when they're not on stage. If you're a
prog rock fan and can possibly attend, make every effort to
be there next year. The festival often barely breaks even,
so every ticket sold really helps.
