| Tech Notes | The Jammin' Band: Carlos Santana & his band Eric Clapton Bobby Whitlock Jim Gordon Carl Radle Neil Schon. Notes: In October 1970 Eric Clapton and the Dominoes arrived in Berkeley. Eric had heard about a young teenage kid called Neil Schon, who was creating quite a stir on the local scene. He was recording with Santana down at the Village recorder in San Francisco and Eric and some Dominoes went down to check him out. Before long the Santana band and Eric and co were jamming away. Those jams are the result of that informal meeting. Eric was certainly impressed and invited young Neil to play with him and the Dominoes at the Berkeley shows. The shows were so good that Eric asked him to join the band. He declined and went on to be a key member in Santana and later formed Journey. (Taken from bootlegzone.com). Comment: Above notes, taken from bootlegzone.com has some incorrect information It was not October, but November. Santana was definitly doing studio sessions at the Wally Heider Studios in November 1970. Why this was given the name Village Recorder Tapes is anyone's guess.
