| J-Card Comment | BONUS 22 Dallas - 28Apr91 Acoustic Tour 91 CD [included as while not as clear as the above version - which was from the Revolution on The Radio CD - the drums / congas have a 'big' sound to them here due to the sonics of the recording) "I'd like to add if I had any views at all, they would be the same as Billy's and everyone else's" - Robyn Hitchcock For years I couldn't listen to the second part of this concert much at all - the varying sound quality frustrated me, that and the fact that the tracks where REM were less involved in meant I didn't feel like giving this much time until I had got around to doing something about the fact the last few tracks ran too fast with way too much treble. I did a little widening (see process below) of 10-12 - the announcements, Radio Song and Disturbance at the Heron House. This is where the recording was a very stodgy mono, and from Swan Swan H onwards (where is it true FM stereo again). I also slowed the recording down a few percent by comparing to other sources of the REM tracks . I also did some EQing on these as they were way too treble-y beforehand and painful to listen to prior to EQ-ing. I should note that the weird noise that sounds like it might be Michael Stipe mucking about around a minute into 'Hello In There' is on the original CD (Revolution on the Radio), and was not distortion that cropped up in ripping (via EAC) or afterwards. I have very much enjoyed compiling this, particularly getting to give the folk tracks from and with other artists towards the end a proper hearing. I hope you enoy this too! I should warn you, the levels differ for the sets of tracks from different sources...the thing is, unless I bring the gain down a lot on tracks 1-9, a little on 14-21...you get the picture. I am not sure whether creating more 'headroom' is necessary on those tracks, when we all (usually) have a volume control on our PCs / listening devices. It is annoying having to leave out key tracks that have been officially released, *but* it must be said the Best of Mountain Stage Vol 2, which contains a very beautiful version of Losing My Religion, in better sound quality than this too, is more than worth the price of admission. For your info, the full broadcast - which I do not have, but I have read online that other parts have circulated - was: 28 April 1991 - 'Mountain Stage', Capitol Plaza Music Hall, Charleston, WV R.E.M.: World Leader Pretend / Radio Song / Fall On Me / It's The End Of The World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine) Larry Groce: Positively 4th Street Robyn Hitchcock: Oceanside (w/ Deni Bonet) / Arms Of Love (w/ Bonet) / Wild Mountain Thyme (w/ Bonet) / So You Think You're In Love Clive Gregson & Christine Collister: The Minute You're Gone / Here I Go Again / I Shake, I Rattle and I Roll / I Know Something Bob Thompson: Brother's Keeper Billy Bragg: The Marching Song Of Covert Batalions / Accident Waiting To Happen / Tank Park Salute / Waiting For The Great Leap Forwards Twister Sisters: All You Ever Think About Is You R.E.M.: Half A World Away / Belong / Love Is All Around / Losing My Religion encore: everyone: Dallas R.E.M.: Radio Song / Disturbance At The Heron House / Low / Swan Swan H Peter Holsapple: White Train Robyn Hitchcock: If You Go Away / Birdshead Billy Bragg & Michael Stipe: My Youngest Son Came Home Today / Hello In There Billy Bragg with Clive Gregson & Christine Collister: Dark End Of The Street R.E.M.: Pop Song 89 / Get Up notes: Performance for Mountain Stage radio program, up to 'Dallas' was broadcast on national radio, the rest was broadcast only on local radio.
