Tech Notes "Notes:

This was one of only a handful of gigs in the UK sponsored by the Asian Music Foundation to whom many thanks. Apart from the Indian tour of 84, I think this is the first re-union of the original Shakti (minus Shankar) since they stopped touring in the 70's.

The inclusion of Hariprasad for the 'missing' Shankar gives this version of Shakti a much more serene and subtle flavour but they were still able to 'cut a rug' when required, although the whole atmosphere more that associated with a classical Indian concert, with Mclaughlin the perceived interloper. The long raga-like Mukhti is much more in line with such a performance. Hariprasad does struggle a bit with the western idioms of For Zakir but McLaughlin shows great empathy in his support.

Recordings of these gigs were used to make the official double CD "Remember Shakti" released in 1998, so this will probably only be of interest to collectors and completists. Enjoy."
