| Tech Notes | "This started life as an attempt to upgrade the Can bootleg "Horror Trip in the Paper House". Remastered versions of some Can bootlegs turmed up so it was a good time. I had always been annoyed by the fact that I`m So Green - Spoon (Improvisations) was cut. Being a complete arse I forgot all about the time restriction of 70 minutes. Hence I then had 2 CD's to fill. Anyway there is a lot of good Can material around from that period. So Here it is "Horror Trip in the Paper House Deluxe Edition" Not really for the serious Can fan but if you fancy a little dip into the period this will serve you well original info sheets below Sgt Weatherman November 2008 CAN ---- Cologne,WDR Funkhaus,Großer Sendesaal 24.06.1972 ----------- Source: Dime id#90534 by 'boomboom' FM Broadcast>master tape>CDR(Philips CDR 570)>wave(EAC)>flacf(8) Editing (Nero 6): ------------------ Converted to mono (left track had almost no glitches) Edited out tape flip during 'Bring me Coffee' & moved the first 1.42 from track2 Edited out all abrupt applause / announcement fragments Removed a few other small glitches Smoothed out track transitions, to make a continuous show Transfer: Nero > EAC > Flac Frontend (level 6) Quality: Worth a solid A now ----------------------------- The original download was basically good sounding, but admitted that there were long glitches in the right channel, especially in 'Bring me Coffee', so as indicated in the comments which claimed the whole thing was mono, I patched in the left channel to cure the glitches. Imagine my surprise when it was obvious that the (mono) patches sounded much better than the rest of the post, so I did this version which is mono (left channel only) and it sounds absolutely terrific for this vintage. Other minor editing described above also helped to transform this into a really good listen... ...Enjoy !! Holger Czukay - bass Michael Karoli - guitar Jaki Liebezeit - drums Irmin Schmidt - keyboards Damo Suzuki - vocals Setlist (48.47) ---------------- Disc one 01. 09.44 Mushroom (still has short voice-over in the middle) 02. 19.20 Spoon > Love Me Tonight 03. 08.50 Bring Me Coffee Or Tea 04. 10.52 Halleluwah Notes: ----- 1. So many thanks to 'boomboom' for his great post. ---------------------------------------------------------------- Disc one 05. Standing so High No lineage on this track it came from The Mother Sky Bootleg. I recivied as an audi CD and ripped the track with EAC and converted to FLAC with TTLH ---------------------------------------------------------------- The CAN - London ,Paris Theatre 1973.02.19 FM(BBC in Concert 1973.03.03 broadcasted) rebroadcast at NDR 2 (year ? ) source : FM (Dieter R.) 1st copy maxell XLII 90 no dolby + 14db cassette > aiff > CDR (JB) > flac (JB) cut at 27:22 due to tape flip I used the above source for the reseed,I added a new textfile,MD5 & ffp(TLH) excellent quality, listen to MP3 sample. The Radio announcement was by Klaus Wellinghaus, a moderator from german radio NDR II. He said the the show is from BBC in Concert and that CAN are playing two tracks : I`m so green and Spoon as a long improvisation. Holger Czukay: bass Irmin Schmidt: keyboards Michael Karoli: guitars, violin Jaki Liebezeit: drums Damo Suzuki: vocals Disc Two 01.I`m So Green - Spoon (Improvisations) 31;47 CAN Olympia, Paris May 12 or 22, 1973 ------------------ Source: Dime, SBD > ANA(?) > CDR(?) > EAC > WAV > FLAC (level 6) Ripped, encoded and seeded by humanoidboo on October 19, 2004 Re-seeded by Vierstein91 http://www.dimeadozen.org/torrents-details.php?id=112307 Editing (Nero6) Selected Right channel (mono) after comparison with Left Fixed dim / quiet first 2.21 of d1t2 Fixed the tape flip / glitch d2t1 Inserted track markers in d2t1 after the glitch Fixed extreme volume fluctuations Eliminated applause fragments Crossfaded between tracks for smooth transitions Faded out aubrupt end of last track Now fits on a single CD-R90 (or split before Spoon for 2 CD-R80's) Gentle 2db Nero noise reduction, without affecting the music Transfer: flac > Nero > burn > EAC > Flac Frontend (level 6) Quality: Worth the A+ now -------------------------- The original seeder 'humanoidboo' said.. "This is a great probably my all-time favourite live CAN recording, right up there with the 1972 WDR broadcast) show in excellent soundboard quality, though a bit hissy in places ... and it's got Damo on vocals!" Well...I already upgraded his other favorite (WDR 1972) and the original seeder (booomboom) commented... "Respect, the result is more than excellent" So...Now here is the Paris 1973 upgrade with the encouragementof both 'humanoidboo' and 'Vierstein91'. Quick attempts at remixing determined that the original is a mono recording with heavy 'fake stereo' processing, confirmed by A/B comparison of L-mono and R-mono versions, of which the Right channel is significantly clearer, especially as you can now hear Holger's bass better, so that is the basis of this upgrade. I also did other fixes (above), added track markers, a little noise reduction and smoothed track transitions, resulting in an even more enjoyable listen, especially on headphones, that fits on a single CD-R90 if your burner / software can handle them (most can now), so... ...Enjoy!!
